Columbus
When Columbus ended my first thought was “I wish this could have gone on for forever.” Sincere, true, and pure. Columbus invites you to hang out with it’s characters; invites you to experience their disappointment and longing. They’re lost. They’re not searching, because they’re content. It takes each other to understand forward motion and what comes next; growth. The film is self-reflective, consisting of many shots focused on mirrors or reflections. This allows the audience to reflect on anything they desire; work, failure, passions, love. You connect with the characters in ways where you understand the emotion behind their eyes, even if you haven’t shared the same experience. Columbus is a stroll of a film. Not a sprint, and not a marathon. It is a moment of simplicity.
