Us and Them
**“If Ian could never find Kelly, then the world will be colorless.”

Another year has passed so I watched Us and Them like I do every year. This year it’s been a confrontation. With myself, with the year behind me, and with the people I loved.
Us and Them understands something human. That love alone is never the problem. Timing is. Fear is. Pride is. The inability to say “I love you” when it still matters, or “I’m sorry” before it’s too late.
As this year comes to a close, I think about the people I lost. I think of the words I said, the love I gave, and how even that isn’t always enough. I never held back. I fought, I stayed, I chose love every single time.
The film captures something painfully true. Love can be real, deep, sincere, and still not survive timing, fear, or life pulling people in different directions. Watching Jianqing and Xiaoxiao drift apart felt familiar. Not because of silence, but because of hope that refuses to die, even when reality says otherwise.
This year taught me how much love can hurt, but also how beautiful it is to feel it so fully. The pain is heavy, but I wouldn’t trade what I felt for anything. If Us And Them has one message I’m carrying into the new year, it’s that love matters, even when it doesn’t last. And some connections change you forever.
A reminder that loving deeply is never a mistake, even when it costs you everything.
