Speed Racer

I faintly remember having a speed racer phase right when this film came out, but oddly I never saw it as a kid? Like I remember watching speed racer clips on youtube (the show/anime) + had racer X's car (and maybe speed's as well?) from the happy meals, and somehow played a game that felt like it was based off of the movie (could be wrong). The reason why I brought this up is because it plays a part in this review. Definitely a "general audience but it's really for the kids" sort of film, and I didn't realize that till a little later, but wasn't surprised lol. Speaking of which, GOD I LOVE THE VISUAL EFFECTS FOR THIS FILM! Call me a dork but, could there be a chance they saw oldboy and took heavy inspo from park chan's transitions? Regardless, I get that some might not appreciate the flashy aesthetic that kinda makes them seem too exaggerated but I like it. The intro to this film had me tearing up because it reminded me of what it felt like to be a kid, daydream like crazy and having everyone around me get annoyed cause it was distracting them. Sadly this jit couldn't bag a gyall but that's okay. I don't think younger me would've appreciate the film like I am now, however I probably would've rewatched it and still have the same feelings per say. I DO THINK EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THIS! And even if you don't get the same high as me, it's probably a strong 4 to 3 and a half. It's such a fun movie and a massive reminder to just create great work and just play! (btw, thanks twitter for giving me the crispiest version of the film. ugh so beautiful)
