Obsession
I refuse to believe the director didn’t pull directly from Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Pulse for the really creepy/inhuman movement scenes. Idk why this bothers me, but from interviews I’ve seen, like bro it’s okay to say you’re reheating some nachos, and both are very good, mind you. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying you’ve been very heavily inspired by a past film.
Suuuuuuper long tangent aside this film is incredible, I don’t think it’s been since It Follows that reeeally hits the mark and treats its topic of bodily autonomy with the severity and horror it deserves. This movie stressed me the fuuuck out, but in a good horror way. Really appreciate the foundation this movie laid down, with the little tidbits the director chose to include, making their friend group read as very believable and dysfunctional. Evil wish toy aside, that friend group woulda blown up or fizzled out by the time everyone was out of the store. 5/5 would watch with my ears plugged and my eyes half closed again.
