The Batman
Best film to watch around Halloween.
Still just as good compared to when I saw it in cinema. Such an amazing film and honestly, couldn't get any better. Firstly, the cinematography was exceptional giving Gotham one of the supporting roles. From the scenes at Gotham PD showing the backdrop to the Iceberg Lounge give a prime example. Comparing this films cinematography to other CBM or similar budgets puts them to shame and unfortunately, embarrasses them.
Each theme in this film holds its own ground and overall benefits the overall film flawlessly and I'll try to comment on a few. Bruce not appreciating Alfred early in the film although everything he's made him become is treated perfectly using Alfred the victim of Riddler's attack. Riddler attacking not only Batman but Bruce himself in one action was just too good. The obvious theme but difficult to not mention, understanding that vengeance doesn't save Gotham nor himself but giving the city hope perfectly wraps the film but does give opportunity for future films to develop using Robin or other characters like Matt Reeves did with Selina & Gotham itself. Keeping to Bruce's core values in his no kill rule was essential, due to recent adaptation's failing to do so, and using Selina to show that when faced with Falcone.
I'd like to comment on Riddler's portrayal by Paul Dano was absolutely unreal and should go down in CBM history. Clearly from previous roles, Reeves knew he was the perfect choice which he supported by his performance. Zodiac and Seven giving inspiration to his character was shown many times by his syphers & his plan throughout the film, testing Batman to his limits which perfectly showed the world-class detective aspect which unfortunately hasn't been shown in recent in film adaptations of the character. Riddler was terrifying throughout the film but was mainly shown during the interrogation scene in Arkham where not only did Reeves make everybody think that the Riddler did in fact know Bruce was Batman. Now personally my favourite moment in the film, Riddler placing Batman on a pedistool as he believes they share the same common beliefs to be shot down within seconds before his plan was about to be set into motion. Screaming in the Arkham cell "This is not how it was supposed to go" was one of the most important scenes in the entire films and was executed perfectly, other than the comedically oversized police collar on Riddler. Honestly, I could write for so long how interesting Riddler's character and how much you absolutely hate him. Rancid, vile character.
Some smaller points which I love; the costume, grounded story, good use of political themes, soundtrack was exceptional, supporting cast acting etc. I could elaborate but don't want to be writing all day haha.
Adore this film and I'll be recommending this film forever. I cannot wait to finish The Penguin & for Batman 2 to release. Will forever stay in my top 4.
