After Hours
*Another 5 star rating!? Fuck yeah!

Where do I even start here..
The entire film has a strange flair like something's off, it always keeps you guessing what might happen or what might go wrong. You also can't tell the character's true intentions. Almost like in American Psycho with Willem Dafoe in his role as the detective, he keeps you unsure whether he suspects Bateman or not, by cutting together 3 different takes that showcase 3 different perspectives from the detective. That's how the entire movie feels like, mind you. It made me go crazy or atleast feel like I was going crazy. This only worked that well because the acting was fantastic.
The story mixed funny but also eerie moments, which never gave you the feeling of safety, I was drawn to the screen by it, waiting and waiting and then regretting to have wanted something to happen because it's better nothing to happen and yeah, phew. There were also moments I asked myself-**is any of this shit real!?
**
Little intermission: I guess I am like Franklin, but with La La Land and American Psycho, maybe instead of screaming that one liner, I would be posing and stare into my reflection in the mirror or start humming Mia & Sebastian's Theme or go "HEY PAUL" or "I guess I'll see you in the movies". Okay enough, good intermission though.
We are back from that little break, and will continue with the plot..
We see the odyssey worker Paul Hackett goes through in the after hours, safe to say, you never know what to expect, everything is possible. His day doesn't seem to find an end, he keeps getting caught up in weird twisted situations and for the love of God can't get home.
What makes the story so amazing though, is how he reacts. He is always relaxed more or less, and thinks clearly, finds the answers to his problems. It made the film clean, a little relatable in the way he was processing some stuff but just let everything seem so flawless, personally I loved to just watch it and let it happen, see what Paul makes out of it.
SPOILER:
So..take-off. What's she gonna do? Kill herself?
I was already laughing about the irony when then the call happened.
I remember going, *Holy Shit*
That's THE interconnected storyline that is allowed to fuck the brains out of me. Every little detail we see is somehow related and important. I was only waiting for some kind of fire, I feared he would burn himself but thank God it didn't happen.
It just felt like the entire time he was attracting the chaos. Even worse, he was attracting my worst fears‐being blamed for something I didn't do but nobody believes me.
Police: Just get some sleep, buddy!
In general not being heard, him going crazy was so reasonable. Then being trapped, also locked out of your home with no chance of getting there or anything. I mean, fuck, really. This whole running away thing and then the theme music, it certainly helped the feeling to grow and me turn mad. I still can't really process what I just watched, I'm overcome by it but it's perfect.
There was a moment when he put on a song on the jukebox with his last quarter and asked the lady to dance, I felt catharsis, the tension eased, little did I know, it was just the calm before the storm.
Anyways, somehow he ended up alive back at his place of employment, just when the work day starts. We saw what Paul does in between the work hours. However, the entire playtime, Paul repeatedly emphasises that he wants to •live• but is that really living? He feared death so much, but was it really the worst that could have happened to him? He is alive, yes. But is he really living? Just returning to work, doing the same monotone boring thing as always, wasn't this night the most excitement he ever felt, perhaps the best thing that could have happened to him?! It's a case unsolved and more of an open question we should ask ourselves, in my opinion. I won't answer though, I will leave that to you.
SPOILER FREE:
Overall, I loved this film, its chaos, aswell as its smoothness. It's available on YT if you want to watch it. I didn't watch it there but made the effort to search it up and link it here, so I don't know if the media is fine but it looked good.
