Hereditary
‘hereditary’ is a film which is as bizarre as it is harrowing. there were so many moments that left me covering my mouth in shock, or holding my hand over my heart. i spent a good portion of the movie leaning forwards, quite literally on the edge of my seat. i know i usually write dumb joke reviews but this was just so.... special??? so unexpected?? this film genuinely has something new to offer to the horror/thriller genre.
the intensity and realness of the main casts performances are unforgettable and breathtaking - particularly alex wolff, who i didnt even know was that good of an actor?? the new ‘jumanji’ wasn’t really a good selling point. toni colette and milly shapiro’s characters were hard to fully rap my head around at first, but chilling nonetheless. their two characters, annie and charlie, made me feel emotions i didnt even know were real. gabriel byrne felt like a figure of authority to me - the only sense of calmness and sanity amidst all the panic, which i appreciated a lot as i spent most of this movie LOSING MY SHIT.
the only reason i decided to deduct half a star from my rating was the ending, which i wasn’t completely satisfied with. it didn’t hold the same feeling of dread found throughout the rest of the film - to me atleast. i would have much preferred if it ended 3 minutes earlier or so.
tldr; shit got wild after the naked brothers band broke up
