C'mon C'mon
A transcendent open arms experience. Just the ultimate commitment of love through vulnerability and sentimental bonding. Hard truths, sad realities, burning questions of confusion. All is revealed between the two because that’s at the end of the day how they get through life and its heights it presents. A very overwhelmingly amazing and richly layered film but l’ll try to stay on topic. There’s something about how the film depicts vulnerability and understanding that just tugs on your heart.
It’s never something instantaneous or a sudden spark between the two, but a journey and process that ultimately takes time to get through. Our minds our constantly reeling over in circles because of our circumstances or own personal problems that her affect the way we think. We all want to pour out these problems and be vulnerable, but never truly know how to. Johnny wants to be open to Jesse and tell him about the family struggles, but simply can’t muster it up due to not wanting to shatter Jesse’s innocent and fragile heart full of hope.
Jesse wants to be vulnerable about these growing changes that frustrate him, but can’t because he dosen't know how to process his emotions as such a curious but still confused and volatile child. The film dives Into the core and soul of these characters hearts, empties them out for us to see up front and in close. It shows how in the face of adversity and hardships of life, that is when we become the most reflective and understanding of our spirits as humans longing for connection because being lost together is better than being lost alone. You learn how to slowly process, understand, and get through things together, picking up and focusing on each other’s strengths and weaknesses we never took into account.
Constantly bleeding into the face of trauma, grief and pain, the film binds this group together in ways unimaginable throughout and shows the ups and downs of our relationships with loved ones and how even those down moments are formative experiences about figuring who they are or how they truly operate as a person. Some could easily say Jesse is a brat or annoying for sometimes running away or throwing a fit over small issues, but the more the film goes on, you realize it’s his way of voicing his frustration and anger at the current family state of having to change things is weighing on him. It’s a call for help and a beg for connection.
To say this bluntly, probably the most personal film I’ve encountered. Even the most mundane and simple moments I feel hold a candle to my own life and ultimate desire for connection in some type of form. Someone to be on the same wavelength as you, truly be able to understand and process your hazy feelings under your frantic state of stress. It feels impossible to find someone that can see this directly eye to eye with you, but films like this make me more hopeful I’ll see that day.
