Nope
A movie not just about how obsessed we are with spectacle, but how that desire for spectacle leads to exploitation in the midst of chasing it and the consequences of that at the hands of the incomprehensible. Peele’s idea of that exploitation is with other beings and animals — living species we can’t communicate or fully understand but only perceive. With that, out of ignorance we only treat them as objects for our spectacle and entertainment of humanity that has a digestible consciousness we instinctively see as superior to animals or other beings we don’t always take into full consideration. What we don’t always consider is their vile nature and ability to strike back at us through their own consciousness we can never understand or predict. The irony of the title Nope is everyone’s so afraid of this vile creature, running away from it, yet can’t help but naturally break the rule of looking into its eyes and soul. Human curiosity beyond what we’ve known gets the best of us and we all want to be at witness of a spectacle. No matter how haunting, we all as specs of humanity want one tiny bite of the greatest rush - capturing a specific moment to be remembered in history and make our small lives more important in the grand scheme of our universe.
