BlacKkKlansman
I was worried this was going to be a “police actually try their hardest for black people” movie after Lee’s acab masterpiece of do the right thing and while Ron never leaves the police force ultimately, Lee still shows that as a police officer you cannot combat racism because the system itself is embedded in racism and that cross burnings will still happen and black people will be profiled until they are liberated. The truth within this movie is strikingly powerful as well, both the footage of the 2017 riots and Belafonte’s story were harshly grounding. If this movie were made today it would feel on the nose with the scene of repeated chants of “America first” but these white supremacist sayings have been around forever. Spike Lee is an absolute master of black cinema and will forever be one of my favourite all time directors
