Do the Right Thing
It’s very rare I watch a film and have the feeling that I am privileged enough to be watching a masterpiece unfold yet in this film i absolutely felt that, what began as a very comedic and low stakes movies with superb dialogue and camera work slowly builds up to its climactic final 20 minutes that come entirely out of left field but doesn’t feel random at all, the use of the sun setting to build up to this was absolutely superb. The commentary on civil rights was absolutely amazing and Radio Raheem’s death was perfectly done because you don’t expect it but it isn’t shocking at all. The use of civil rights through the metaphor as a heatwave is also absolutely brilliantly done. One of my favourite pieces of black cinema and one that should definitely be on anybodies watchlist
