Mulan
love 2d animation and love musicals. i used to listen to reflection almost daily as a kid, but it still moves me to tears every time i listen to it. obviously there’s pacing issues, but when everything else is so good how could i care. not to mention how queer the themes of this movie are, intentional or not. such a great cast of characters and mulan herself is such an amazing protagonist from the very beginning. she’s such a fuck up. it’s no wonder every little girl i grew up with wanted to be her. and it’s weird i guess. coming from a very lax (relatively) asian family, i don’t think i ever felt that stereotypical pressure to honor my family or our name or whatever. but like, i guess i kinda did, just more implicitly. so i get her. bc it was never about the honor, and i would do anything for my family. and even past that, i love that they gave her a chance to go home. no strings attached, a chance to be safe with her family. just her sense of duty (and pride) keeping her there. i guess i can relate to that too lol. also everyone forgets that mulan has a dog. not me tho. i love you little brother
