Bo Burnham: Inside
And then, the funniest thing happened...
Still an immaculately-made work of art. It's a slow and surprisingly relatable decent into madness. The isolation is predicated on the pandemic, but really it acts as an artistic expression for anyone feeling alone, trapped, or struggling with depression. Along with that, it's possibly the most scathing critique of internet culture put on film.
After watching this the first time, I wondered whether it was all real, candid moments or if this is totally staged. On second watch, I don't think every moment is purely candid, but I do think it's 100% authentic to his experience making the film, and that's what really counts.
It's just an incredible achievement for one person to build this whole project, using the single canvas of this tiny room so effectively, and to build a cohesive atmosphere, load it with jokes and music and lighting, and then edit it all together. It continues to be one of the most impressive pieces of art I've seen. It speaks to me.
