Encanto

I've seen a ton of animated films, and this was truly one of the most visually striking I've seen. It's full of dynamic vibrance, and especially during the songs there is so much vitality packed in, whole settings are used for just a few seconds just to get the mood exactly right. There are brief moments of the story being a little heavy-handed in saying "vulnerability is okay", but in general I liked the themes, and it's a children's movie so I can't really complain. I'm not really a fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda, but I still found myself enjoying the music, likely because his fingerprints aren't TOO deep in this - there is still some fast rap-singing, but I wouldn't have felt totally confident that he composed the music. We'll see if it stands the test of time, but I really enjoyed it!
