The Substance

''You will not be disappointed. She's my most beautiful creation. I have shaped her for success.'' Disgusting, unnerving, terrifying and so raw. I wanted to watch The Substance for a while now and I’m glad I finally did. It’s probably the most disgusting body horror movie I’ve ever watched, and I loved that. But the movie is also about a really important topics like beauty standards. Older stars, especially women, often feel like they’ve become invisible, unattractive, or “too old.” This movie takes that fear and pushes it to its absolute extreme. And honestly, with some of the things celebrities do to stay “young,” it doesn’t even feel that unrealistic anymore. A truly amazing movie that I would absolutely recommend. It’s over the top, incredibly gory, has phenomenal acting, and underneath all the chaos there’s a surprisingly serious and relevant message.
