The Thing
''Thousands of years ago it crashes, and this thing gets thrown out, or crawls out, and it ends up freezing in the ice.''
The Thing is the sci-fi horror movie. It still influences all kinds of media to this day.
You can feel the paranoia and fear within the crew throughout the entire film. Nobody knows who is infected and who isn’t and as a viewer, you don’t know either. The movie keeps you guessing at all times. Even after the ending, one question remains: Is the Thing really dead?
What I also loved were the grotesque practical effects and the fact that the Thing is not a typical humanoid alien. I’m not even sure we ever see its true form. It feels more like a shapeshifting predator lurking among its prey.
The atmosphere also scratched a very specific itch for me: being trapped in the Arctic during a storm with no escape, trying to figure out who is infected while everyone slowly turns against each other. Great film.
