Maniac
A whole absurd and strange ordeal, but at the same time the portrayal of the extent of the pain and trauma one accumulates throughout their life and as a result of unresolved trauma they cause further trauma to someone else and then someone else like an unending chain reaction, is quite accurate. But at the same time a budding relationship through the common linking of the minds, with one helping the other process their past trauma and deep regrets. The chemistry and acting of Emma Stone as Annie and Jonah Hill as Owen was absolutely beautiful, the on screen bonding and emotional connection was interesting to see, it’s not just a romantic sort of love, it’s also a deeper understanding of one another and acceptance of each other’s flaws. Like how two halves make one whole. The bright neon colour palette as a way that adds heavily to world building but also adds to the emphasis on the internal struggles and trauma that each character is dealing with in the form of bisexual lighting. I did enjoy all the various imaginary scenarios the two were put in and playing different characters in vastly unique scenarios but had a variety of imbedded recurring themes and characters in different forms.
An enjoyable and somewhat more absurdist in nature than my usual preferences but was nonetheless captivating in its premise and its hypothetical world with exaggerated features. Fully appreciate the creativity and story
