the problem with enrolling yourself as an ultrasonic epistemic dissident is that if bach’s talent can be reduced to his gender, birth country, religion, sexuality, and so on, then so can yours. rewatched this for cate blanchett’s birthday and really enjoyed it the second time. it’s such an excellent character study. cate blanchett’s performance is so fucking good that it feels like lydia tár was an actual person, and i had to remind myself she’s fictional. the film is pretty long and slow, so the pacing is still a bit of an issue for me because you have to stay focused throughout to fully enjoy it. but i’m glad i gave this one a rewatch. fuck the academy.
