Sentimental Value

“why didn’t our childhood ruin you?” ran it back as the third film in the fourplex neon/letterboxd challenge in burbank. this movie is just phenomenal and absolutely holds up on rewatch. such an emotional rich narrative about the difficulties in communicating and making amends. i think this film will hit me more each and every time i end up watching it and i feel like i connect with its messaging in my own life. renate reinsve is actually insanely good here. i keep thinking about the scene in which gustav hands nora the script near the beginning of the film and her facial expressions and delivery of lines are just impeccable. oscar worthy shit right there. inga ibsdotter lilleaas as agnes stood out especially on this viewing and i cannot see a world where she doesn’t get a nom for supporting actress. obviously stellan skarsgård is still terrific as is elle fanning. just wow. this film is just something to behold. “you don’t have any right to worry about me.”
