RRR
RRR is a new film by Indian director S. S. Rajamouli. I would have never
watched it if it was not for its reception from American cinephiles on apps like Twitter. Calling the film one of the best of the year that everyone should see it. So when I saw that it came to Netflix, I realized I should probably check it out after watching it, ''holy SHIT, that was awesome".
The word I would use to describe RRR is EXCESS. Over the top gore, dance numbers, and hatred of colonizers. An example of this is the ending as a British general is shot in the heart blood covers a sign that says, "the sun never sets on the British empire", There is only one white person in the movie who is not evil.
The film is a lot of different things due to its 3-hour run time, a buddy comedy, a period piece for two people that never met in history, and a bloody action movie. I think it pulls this off perfectly. I did not feel the 3 hours.
The film also features one of the best dance scenes in the film context scene starts with one of the British guys making fun of Ram and showing him all the dances he can do, asking Ram what he can do, making fun Ram. Then a food tray falls on the floor, goes in the air, then hits a drum. The drummer goes hard on the tray, and then Ram's buddy starts dancing, then Ram joins in, and it becomes this crazy dance scene where everyone starts dancing.
The film has many great scenes like that. Being a dumb American, I have not seen many films like this, and I will try to watch more movies like this in the future.
