"There are three ways of doing things around here: the right way, the wrong way, and the way that I do it. You understand?
Yeah I'm not disagreeing with anyone ever if they say Martin Scorsese is the greatest director who ever lived. What the fuck did i just watch. 3 Hours* long movie and I wasn't bored for even a second!!!!!. I haven't moved from my bed in 3 hours, no piss breaks, no nothing. How the fuck do you make a movie so engaging. Everything was on point. The story, the music, the lighting, especially the lighting, the charm of Peak Las Vegas, Vintage Cars, Suits, Girls, everything on fucking point for that classic 80s setting. Plus on top of that you had Scorsese's favourite mobsters. Who makes them better than scorsese? No one. It had everything, Humor, Drama, Friendships, Betrayals, Murders, Police, FBI. A proper and serious fucking movie. Also i don't know how everyone feels about it, but personally the narration by both Ace and nicky throughout the whole movie was one of the best aspect of the movie. Really liked that choice. Every dialogue was razor sharp. Could hear them tell this as a "Story"* for days. Scorsese knows how to make shit bro. Literal GOD **behind that camera🙏
Robert De Niro is at his absolute best here. One of his best performance ever. He is always at his best when he plays these Calm and composed, "I'm done with all this bullshit" kinda tough guy roles. Owned the screen everytime he walked into the frame. Bro really had unlimited patience in this movie😭. Everybody drove him so fucking crazy in this, especially his wife, Ginger. Sharon stone was acting like her fucking life depended on it. Playing one of the worst wife i have ever seen😭🙏. She wanted to love him but she really couldn't. True embodiment of the saying, "Don't save her, she don't wanna be saved". Every crying and crashing out scene of her's was the greatest acting I have ever seen. Idk who was nominated that year but she better have that oscar for this. And then we had Joe Pesci as the hothead mobster, Nicky. There is absolutely NO ONE who could play that role better than him. This almost felt like the same guy from goodfellas, they just put him in Las Vegas😭. Pure evil, scary, mean, unpredictable asshole friend that you do not want to keep around but unfortunately HAVE* to. This Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci duo is the best thing that has happened to cinema. Throw in some Frank Vincent aka Frank marino aka billy batts aka Phil Leotardo* in there lmao. It's always gonna be fucking peak.
I honestly wasn't expecting to like this too much, because first, I was a little skeptical about that 3 hour runtime, i haven't liked a 3 hour movie since Oppenheimer lol. Second, I thought i had seen every masterpiece scorsese has made but no he had another one in his pocket😭🙏. I don't know how many others this guy has. Ridiculously good cinema. This might be the long review i have written but yk what, this movie deservs it. I like to remember things I felt when I first watched a movie.
