Collateral
"Yo, homie... that my briefcase?"
A perfect fucking film. Michael mann is the god of this action/crime genre. Nobody shoots L.A. like Michael mann does. The palm trees, the skyline, neon lights, the most beautiful backdrops. Literal God behind that camera. I'm so surprised to see this 3.9 rating. This is like one of the most thrilling movie i have ever seen. The pacing is fast and action packed and on top of that the dialogue is amazing. Every single actor is in their element. Tom Cruise as a villain is on a whole another stratosphere. Genuinely one of the best acting performances ever. Straight menacing from cold looks to cold dialogues. The conversations between him and jamie foxx's character were sooo perfect, which is not something you generally expect from an action movie. My personal favourite tom cruise monologue was:
"Millions of galaxies of hundreds of millions of stars and a speck on one in a blink. That's us. Lost in space. The cop, you, me, who notices?
Absolute peak dialogue that shows his whole mentality behind why he does what he does. This psyche of Vincent is sprinkled throughout the whole movie. One of the first things he says to max is that he hates LA, because nobody notices anything, not even a corpse lying on a subway which was a great foreshadowing. This humanizes even Vincent, the literal sociopath. Even he craves that human connection he didn't get in his childhood. Idk why but I connected with this movie alot. Peak.
Even with all that they didn't compromise the enjoyability factor at all. The tension kept getting higher and higher with each passing minute. The club-murder sequence with the most perfect music in the background is one of the best scene ever. I was at the edge of my fucking seat and then ofcourse the final showdown in the metro
"A guy gets on the MTA here in L.A, and dies. Think anybody'll notice?"
Absolute chills. Insanity. Brilliant movie. Better than "Thief" forsure, definitely up there with "Heat". I have to see more of Michael mann now.
