"What the fuck is that?, Barbeques and Ballgames?"
What an introduction to Michael mann. This might be one of the greatest movie i have ever seen. I'm putting straight into my favourite films of all time list. I don't even need to rewatch it. Its one of those rare movies, where as soon as you finished it, you just stare at the credits knowing that this was one of the greatest movie experience of all time. The feeling that this movie gave me is different. I cant even put it in words. The music michael mann chose for this movie is sooooooo goooood. Especially in that scene with Eady and Neil on the balcony watching the city lights. The skyline view paired with that 80s Synth music is peak fucking cinema. Apart from that there are like 5 different scenes in this movie that can be considered one of the greatest of all time. Especially both The opening heist and the bank heist and the shootout that follows it. Literally peak cinema. Also the conversation scene between Neil and Vincent is an all timer. And then obviously the whole ending sequence from the moment Neil changes his mind to go and kill waingro till his death. Goated. No other words. Just goated. I am about to rewatch this movie again today. Back to back idgaf. This movie is special.
Also i loved the cool little detail of Neil's "code to live by". Neil could have left with eady, but he couldn't let go of waingro. He let his revenge be the thing he couldn't walk out of in 30 seconds. And that was it. The scene where Neil sees Vincent coming towards him and he takes like 30 seconds to decide whether to run and leave eady, just wow, Amazing film making.
Having Al pacino and Robert di Niro in a single movie is a cheat code for a classic. Plus Val Kilmer was goated asf.
I LOVEEEE this genre of cat and mouse thing between a smart criminal and an obsessive cop. Always works. Plus this movie looks gorgeous. The lighting, All the nightime shots, the citylights, Skyline in the background, penthouses, everything looked so good. Everything that you expect from an Michael mann movie. An Absolute Delight to watch.
