Train Dreams
Not sure where to begin, I guess I should say that this film is one of a kind, a true spectacle to not just watch, but also experience. Special is an understatement.
Robert is a such a well written character, who’s feelings feel so real despite his lack of words, or even actions, just his perspective on things.
On a more technical aspect, I was surprised by how well the higher shutter speed worked for this film. Usually, anything other than double the frame rate (i.e. 1/48 or 1/50) would look unnatural and un-immersive. But this did the opposite. The higher shutter made it feel like you weren’t watching the events unfold, but you were there witnessing them. Immersion has rarely been so effective for me.
Train dreams is such a heartfelt story that fully absorbs you with its random life of events style of direction in the plot. I couldn’t predict anything, which is rare. Such a refreshing watch. I highly recommend Train Dreams to everyone.
