Blade Runner 2049
Our lives mean nothing next to a storm that's coming. Dying for the right cause. It's the most human thing we can do.No fucking way, Jared Leto is in this. That's probably the only thing keeping me from putting this as my favorite movie (that and the fact I only watched it once and I just watched it, so you know, recency bias). But still, this movie went straight up to my top 4 for a reason, man. I still don't really know if it's my favorite movie ever because PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK cinema. Absolutely fantastic, breathtaking, and all that shit. Jesus fuck, I have no idea where to even start with this otherworldly masterpiece. But when I wanted to watch this the first time like 2 years ago, I was so fucking bored. I remember falling asleep 30 minutes in, and I thought I was just sleepy and that was the blame of it. But it actually just was me because I fell asleep today at midnight and woke up at 6:51 AM. I decided to start watching Ryan Gosling's whole filmography (La La Land is probably next), and still, I loved this shit so fucking much, man, every single second Every single frame was amazing. Denis Villeneuve already had pretty much shocked me with his Dune movies; those were really good. But THIS? And it's so rewatchable too, man, because it isn't slow. In my opinion, there is always action going on. And when there are those boring parts, although I wouldn't call them that, they are more peaceful parts. In them, we always have those amazing visuals, the score, and obviously the cinematography to keep us in the movie. And it worked for me.
I really, REALLY want to write a VERY LONG review about this movie, but at least in the "Suspiria" one, I had the plot to talk about and how complex it was. Half of it is me explaining stuff people thought was confusing. (I will probably go and delete those parts because it isn't that complex.) But this movie really doesn't have that to talk about because the plot really isn't confusing. It's easy to understand, man. Not very simple because it's a Denis Villeneuve movie, but also not as complex as some others. And that's honestly good and not a flaw, in my opinion. The only bad thing about this movie is the fact that there aren't a whole bunch of sequels, prequels, TV shows, and all those other stuff that mediocre movies like Star Wars got. This movie just changed me. I don't know how, but it just did. I never watched the original Blade Runner by Ridley Scott, but movies, in my opinion, can't get better than this. And I don't know, man, what else is there to say? This movie was almost 3 hours long, and I had no sleep so this is taking a while to write, and I'm not even really sure why I loved this so much. Maybe because it might be realistic the way things are going. I wouldn't be shocked if 2049 was like this. I will be alive to watch it, so I'm going to give this a rewatch when I do. And who knows, maybe the world will become a gigantic megalopolis cluttered with stories-high video screens, flying cars, and a sad and grey feeling above it. The depressing realization that once there was nature and there was life, that animals and trees lived there, but we obviously destroyed it all until it was too late to do anything. It's depressing, but it's becoming a reality.
Ryan Gosling obviously fucking owned his role and no fucking way this only got 2 oscars man and only a fucking 88% on rotten tomatoes there is someting wrong in this world but anyways he gave a monotome impenetrable, straight-faced emotionless acting in the begginign of the movie kind of like all the people in madame web exept in this one that was needed cause he is a fucking robot technaclly when in madame web the acting was just bad hes just cold and shows no emotion because hes a replicant he was fucking perfect i this or kinda imperfect because those little imperfections in his robot like acting shows us that behind those cold eyes theres a little boy and he does that perfectly the slips in his behavior and the fact they got more and more progressive make this a worthy rewatch cause i noticed some but i know there is aalot fucking more i just know it but i liked the way he got more emotional in this i was kinda worried we where going to have to put with a no emotions ryan during the whole movie because that would simply just be a waste to be honest and i had no ideia what i was about to watch but damn the story took a very good turn and made ryan gosling live up to his potentiotal hes amazing in every single scene he is in wich is basically the whole movie his acting carried this on his back and he is good at both the still scenes the kick ass perfectr action scenes and the more emotional scenes basicallt hes a fucking perfect actor in this but out of all the names did he really had to stick up with ''Joe'' theres much better names and thers no excuse that joe is a biblical name or shit like paul in duen this is only 26 years in the future joe is just a bland name but was kinda funny nexttime call your self someting cool like terminator or devils messager
Im being really picky about the flaws in this and it might sound like i didnt like this enough to be in the top 4 but its just i have to talk about everythin in this and the flawsz barely bothered me i tought joe was actually a kinda funny name i giggled when Joi said ''Joe'' but i just fucking noticed right fucking now thatits s such a fucking basic and average name that by calling him that, Joi is telling him he's just a regular person but a few seconds later (i know im probally just crazy and making shit up) she said your a ''good joe'' so maybe she was meaning he was different and was meant to do great things wich then (bare with me) when we see nude joi the add said ''everything you want to hear'' wich that specific scene added to the plot twist and showed to us that K and Joi's relationship is nothing real and not unique becaus ein the first half joi was making K being delusional saying he was the real child wich shows us that everything that Joi said was progammed and gives a shattering conclusion to K that Joi was only saying what he wanted her to say shes just a hologram and he wanted her to love him wich makes Joi's last words ''i love you'' even more sad cause i was lowkey sad when she went away and dissapeared i felt bad but then i came to this realazation and its sad that K only wanted to hear an i love you showing us that he has emotions altough hes not real and might not have the cliche soul the poor guy has feelings too man and i felt bad for him really bad for him this is canon in my head i dont care what anyboy sayd its like that woamn said its all part of the puzzle man this is all true now that i see it this movie is actually really complex man its way more full of little details than what i tought so thats why i will be rewatching when possible because i fucking loved this and has so mcuh more hidden things than you can see in a 1st watch
The biggest flaw in this movie wich is actually kinda little kinda pointless is Niander Wallace actoe FUCKING JARED LETO im not saying this because its a trend to hate them or anything i liked him in fight club he barely was in it but he still was important to the story in american psycho he was annoying so he suceeded in his job cause i guess that character was supposed to be annoying and i liked seeing him be axed murdered and i dont rmeember his in house of gucci lady gaga kinda carried it tbh but in this movie man he plays a grey eyed probally blind dude he plays a dude who openly admits that his slave-labor product allows humans to thrive on nine off-world colonies throughout the galaxy. He has helped foster a fascistic order that places humans on top of a social hierarchy and replicants in an inhuman labor class thats not a really easy role to play and honestly he failed to play it sorry not sorry he probally read the script wrong or someting and misheard that he was playing human and tought he was a robot cause he delivers his lines with less emotion than a real fucking robot man he should even try to be creepy but fails his dialogue is still wich is such a shame cause his assistant Luv (Sylivia Hoelks) was so fucking great in this man she was really annoying but thats her job played a maniac robot perfectly and knew how and when to slip and show emotion and then the visuals of that place everything was in his favor dude the film was coded visually and thematically, with the colors of black and gold in one scene they even showed bees to do a pararell to the replicants of the robots called “Mecha,” who, in contrast to the human “Orga,” functioned as servants, often humiliated or even tortured for the spectacle of their human masters wich unfortuionalley were jared leto
That is basically the lows of the movie wich may seem alot because i wrote like 300 words about it but trust me in the movie its basically pointless. I could be going on and on and on abiut why Blade Runner 2049 is a techinal masterpiece but its also a masterpiece in so many other ways i simply do not have the patience or the sufficient hours of sleep to talk about it but someting ni ine can deny is that this movie is visually perfect its THE best looking film i have ever watched and i have no doubt one of the best lookinh of all time the cinematography by Roger Deakins is simply stunning the production design was perfect and the cgi and pratical effects man just was all so fucking good the visuals also have a purpose and a reason for its existence instead of just being there to make this even better its all a remark in cinema history and i dont know how it isnt top 250 in here since dune part 2 is some said this movie was way to long and i guess i understand them i guess but i had no fucking problem with it because i was simply amazed with the story and how it was presented to us and the phenomenal action scenes for me there isnt a single thing wrong about this movie i will watch the og someday it answers so much but leaves so many questions too like is Deckard human i have no fucking ideia and puts into question what many movies did but this one is simply better it asks what it means to be human
#this aint even a review this is a whole essay
