This didn’t get a best original screenplay nom but Emilia Perez got a best adapted?!? The world is turned upside down. I would’ve traded this out for the brutalist or September 5 any day.
Beautiful through and through. The perfect snapshot of what it was like growing up in the late 2000s. This hit me so deeply. While I would say it’s comparable to Eighth Grade in terms of its material, I think Izaac Wang’s acting takes it to a whole other level. Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking.
After watching all the best supporting actress nominees, Joan Chen blew them all out of the water. She brought her character so much depth in a really organic way. One of my favorite performances of 2024.
Instant favorite and I hope to see Sean Wang with a 2nd Oscar nom soon!
