One of stephen kings legendary stories that has never really had a PERFECT or great adaptation, 1990s IT has a first act that could be called perfect or as close to as can be with IT at his most playfully chilling and evil tormenting these innocent losers as they face and confront their fears with genuinely solid child performances especially for the time.
But it is dramatically let down by its 2nd half that slows the pace down to a CRAWL and puts IT kind of in the background and nowhere near as playfully creepy and an ending confrontation that is soooo anticlimactic (however if i saw that spider form i would easily be the tastiest victim there for pennywise 😂) which really really lets down the quality of the film as a whole because the long runtime is felt massively but at least is still performed decently well but not quite as entertaining imo.
What holds it all together throughout tho ofc os Tim fuckin Curry man my god is that man one of the best to ever do it and Richard Bellis‘ awesome score that elevates the horror elements massively.
