The Wicker Man
“And what of the TRUE god?”
“He's dead. Can't complain, had his chance and in modern parlance, blew it.”
-
“You'll simply never understand the true nature of sacrifice.”
-
“If the crops fail, Summerisle, next year your people will kill you on May Day.”
-
“Summer is icumen in, loudly sing cuckoo. Grows the seed and blows the mead, and springs the wood anew. Sing, cuckoo! Ewe bleats harshly after lamb, cows after calves make moo.“
-
“Come. It is time to keep your appointment with the Wicker Man”
This is the single most fucked up musical ever made..
The wicker man is utterly mesmerising and intense fully amplified by the heavy ominous atmosphere that weighs on your chest, making absolute maximum potential of its super short run time and makes the audience sit with the constant feeling of danger due to the exhausting lies and unpredictable and sometimes feral behaviour of the islands inhabitants.
The 93 minutes of intense, eerie and uncomfortable build up suddenly forces us into the bleak but frighteningly stunning ending that brutally displays the finality of Christianity’s fear mongering grip on the world with sergeant Neil embodying the last threads of that religion and then in this context the haunting embrace of polytheistic religion and paganism which is ultimately what this film is about.
And its a british film so bonus points because best country in the world ✊🇬🇧🇬🇧
