Queer
such a strange and perfect atmosphere. makes ‘do i smell like vomit?’ one of the more romantic and endearing lines i’ve heard. edward hopper x lynch x bunuel x burroughs x luca. there’s no door in the painting. speaks to me on a deep level. idk man. sometimes you just get it and it works and it means more to you than anything else. trent reznor and atticus ross’ score, combined with daniel craig’s all timer performance, make for one of the most emotional film watching experiences i’ve had in my life thus far. such a thoughtful pronunciation of burroughs’ prose, you can tell that this was something that luca has been wanting to make for a long time. the gulf between the film’s melancholy and it’s eroticism is evidence enough of guadagnino being one of the greatest directors currently working - and the fact that it has a 3.4 average on this damn website is proof enough that letterboxd isn’t a genuine forum for film criticism. every needle drop (ESPECIALLY come as you are and leave me alone) are so completely perfect and evocative. i just feel so lucky that we are able to have a collaboration between one of the best directors, screenwriters, actors, cinematographers and composers working, and that they are adapting one of the most interesting and captivating writers of the 20th century - not to mention that (burroughs adaptation and daniel craig aside) it’s only one of two that we got in 2024. drew starkey is ideal for this movie as well. so well edited !!! a perfect beautiful film that feels like it was made just for me. the bunuel influence too ?!?! dare i say literally me ????
seriously cannot emphasise enough how great the score is. also, no one mentions jason schwartzman OR omar apollo (clearly referencing everyone’s favourite guy from belle de jour) in this enough. fantastic
please watch queer (2024)
