Barbie
English:
Even though I'm not a girl (I'm non-binary), I connected deeply with the movie. When it ended, I told my friend that the movie made me feel validated, but I didn't know why. After a while, I think it was all about the whole 'being enough' thing. I spent a big part of my childhood playing with my friends' Barbies; I always loved dressing them up in different outfits.
For me, just going to the cinema dressed the way I was had a huge impact on me. It was a way to 'embrace my femininity,' something I'm afraid to do, but the environment made me feel comfortable. It was the first time I wore lipstick in public, for example. Overall, I felt great, but I still felt like an outsider in the feminine world, even though I'm not even trying to fit in. It's the age-old struggle of non-binary people not feeling masculine or feminine enough. But, as I said before, this movie made me feel validated, made me feel feminine enough to be myself.
