Panic Room
It was between watching a movie and going to bed early and holy shit this was a nail biter.
I had heard and read a lot that people didn't like the end and I get it a bit but I don't take issue with it.
I have a soft spot for forest whitaker. I didn't see him as the bad guy at all. Such a cutie.
What I liked:
- I am just a huge fan of panic rooms as a concept. The fact that the purge movies had them made them less bad tbh
- I loved the camera movements but also the positioning when stationary.
- so much tension, it's crazy.
- that communication via paper was a funny bit
- the propane-lighter scene was badass
- the dynamics in the burglar group was quite nice. Three very different people and then Raoul taking over and being this psychopath.
- the plot point that burnham is the designer of this room is just so interesting to me, loved it. He was so smart about it.
- diabetes works great at upping the stakes.
- that trick where Raoul disguised himself as Stephan was cool (though we as a viewer could see it many seconds before already)
- when Burnham was on the ground, hands up, surrounded by cops, I was sooo worried he was gonna get shot anyway just because of his skin color. I am so glad that was not the case, I would've been quite sad and mad.
What I didn't like:
- its not even a bad plot point and it even gets referenced in the end when they go searching for new homes, but why TF do they have thiiis mich space as two people. That's so dumb...
- at times it became predictable that the movie always chose the path where every outcome was the most clutch possible. Of course she would be successful at retrieving her phone but it will be so so so close yeaa
- I don't like Jared leto. Tho he fit the role of this dumb impulsive guy
- some scenes had this stupid fading black transition. That's just powerpoint-esque
- Stephan (father) had such a non-role. He had impact by having callee the cops and shooting that weapon (unsuccessfully) in the end, but he spoke so few words it was crazy.
- is it really the case that you will be put on hold when calling 911?? That made me a bit mad.
- I didn't get how when Burnham was worried she had the gun (which she hadn't had at that moment) and he voiced that concern, that the PA button was pressed so she could hear that. Nobody pressed that, right? Or did I miss a scene? Was Raoul leaning on the button? Did Kristen Stewart (forgot the characters name) press it in secret?
- I didn't quite get why the broken mirror glass was important on the floor in the end. Is it for hearing them better? I wouldn't think that effect is actually noticeable
