Amadeus
When I booked to watch this film’s restoration at cinema, I was hasty as I was worried I wouldn’t understand because I was not a fan of classical music however right from the start of the movie the opening scene brings you in and this dark comedy slowly eases you into the world of classical music until you forget that you never understood it to begin with. The envy that is felt towards Mozart throughout the film is something that we can all resonate with today but it sends a message that we cannot let this jealousy drive us to insanity and cannot allow ourselves to be consumed with the idea that we are mediocre simply because we are less than someone else as in this film Mozart is simply born with his talents and the fact he can never be beaten create a narrative of unfairness which is what motivates the attempts of sabotage until eventually he just wants a piece of what Mozart has naturally but even when that is taken away it literally drives him insane.Mozart is painted as this careless boisterous crazy character that’s so unpredictable yet perfection and routine when it comes to his music and it’s compositional writing. Throughout the film he’s painted opposite as what a typical composer would act overall naive and childish in fact there’s so much contrast between the stereotypes of composers what of that main character starts to blame a higher power. The increasing jealousy also causes him to think about the world is against him leading him to blame and feel so much self hate in comparison so much so that he attempts to take his own life. Overall this dark comedy should become a must watch in our modern world to emphasise the dangers of comparison and jealousy because no matter how hard we try we cannot become them or even part of them.
