Beautiful Boy
This film encompasses the lifespan of an addict from their days of innocence to casual use to addiction and relapse. The reflection on his innocence builds an understanding connection with all those who watch it causing them to feel sympathy that leads to this emotional connection deepening my understanding of these tragic lives. I now realise the effects they have on not only themselves but on the others around them. The building of Hope lures you into a false sense of positivity and when this is eventually proven wrong yet again it replicates the frustration the families go through trying to support someone who they love very much furthering the audiences understanding of the matter. However, in the end all hope is lost and the heartbreaking moment of abandonment must occur because they realise that there is nothing more they can do. It warns us that even one wrong turn or straying slightly off your path can derail your entire life leading down an endless loop which continues and continues. The film not only depicts them as villains towards their family but victims towards the drugs showing that no matter how much a good person you are or the resources you have or the support system that’s available to you there is no escape and that impending doom is ignored by those who love them as all they do is hope. Overall this is a piece of cinema that not only entertains but also educates on both the realistic side to drugs and sympathy. This will never fail to bring me to tears.
