Buffalo '66
Yes I watch this movie for the 3rd time and it is one of my favorite movies despite the controversies it brings. (here are some facts about this movie)
The logic of this movie is simple. This movie is either loved or simply liked or hated
The film is mainly disliked by the director who also played the main role, Vincent Gallo. I have also come across opinions that believe that this film shows "the world through men's eyes" with some kind of god complex or something like that, like no matter what they do, they are still innocent, but such opinions are in the minority.
Vincent Gallo is known for his egoistic approach to creating movies, considering himself as someone "above others", he is selfish and full of himself. (probably that's why Layla's kidnapping is presented as something positive in this movie). I think this movie perfectly visualizes his personality in real life. Christina Ricci, who played Layla, mentioned in interviews that working with Vincent was uncomfortable (emphasizing the fact that the actress was 17 years old during filming.) Vincent allegedly commented on her body on set and made her feel uncomfortable many times.
The film only shows Billy's past and leaves us in the dark about Layla. (See? this probably speaks to the selfish nature of the director) I think Christina Ricci did great in this movie and I really love her character even though we know nothing about her
Layla probably treats her kidnapping as something "okay" because she has Stockholm syndrome and let's hope that was the director's intention...
