Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
Ok this is where these movies kinda become capital-M-capital-I Mission Impossible to me. Not that the last three weren’t Mission Impossible movies, but more that they hadn’t quite figured out the aesthetic yet.
This is probably the objective best of the franchise so far, but I do miss the individualities of 1, 2, and 3. I don’t think there are any truly “bad” Mission Impossible movies, but I do think they start to blend together as the series runs on and this one kicks it off. Each one before this felt so distinct in its approach to the characters and vibe of the series. This one feels like they finally nailed it, but the result isn’t quite as interesting as it is consistent. EDIT AFTER HAVING WATCHED MORE MOVIES— its 1000% a good thing that they got their shit together.Maybe I’m just missing how 2 felt like a Nickelback video and 3 is just JJ Abrams batting (an extremely rare) 1000. Those are not nearly as well constructed as this, but I’ll miss the vibes.
