C'mon C'mon
before i was born both of my biological grandfathers had passed away. luckily, i had someone to step in for their place. to my parents he was their best friend, jack, but to me he was my pa. growing up he would always challenge my way of thinking, he would ask me analytical questions definitely more advanced for my age about the world and myself. he also always told me the coolest facts about animals, history, and of course himself. as time went by i soon could answer his questions logically and we would have some nice discussions.
when i was around 14, he was diagnosed with dementia. the decline started off slow forgetting some words here and there and misplacing things that i would always help him try to find. after a few years, the decline became more rapid. he wasn’t able to use his articulate words or ask questions like he used to and often ended up repeating his words or asking the same questions over and over. most people would get annoyed with this. but i didn’t. if he asked my “how’s school going?” or “what are your plans for college?” 100 times over the course of our conversation i was glad to remind him or sometimes elaborate more on the subject. i always knew he was glad to listen and be included in a conversation. unfortunately, he began to diminish even more and was put into hospice care as i headed off to college. the night i moved into my very first apartment as a college student as he always hoped i would do, he passed away.
i’ll miss you forever pa.
i’ll always remind you of everything <3
