Blade Runner
The great existentialist film. But it’s not despairing. The overall theme is that there is more to being human than flesh. Plus, the universe-building, visuals and Vangelis’ warm otherworldly music invites a strange familiar yearning for this dystopian place. It’s the feeling probably gained by the people who claim to like brutalist architecture - the claustrophobic darkness and overbearing neon and smoke is such a parody of modernity that it transcends the smelly awfulness. There is much beauty in it.
