esoteric was the big word bouncing around my head lol
what a behemoth of a film. i’m wondering how such a spiritual piece was able to be released in the soviet union but maybe that’s js some western propaganda in my head 😵💫. i’m in love with the writer, im in love with how slow this film is, im in love with this film. i can’t rlly wrap it around myself rn but i think some major themes in this film are about art, enlightenment, but most of all very clearly ab spirituality. I like that the Zone can be made up, it can be just a room or a zone killed by nuclear power but it’s the hope that’s important. All three of these men are reaching for some understanding of the world and all of them stop just shy of it. in general i think escapism from an awful world is a lot of what drives religious fervor. The film really loses me at the girl in the end, w the soviet anthem being played. what does that possibly mean? how does a film so unsatisfied w the communist world manage to come out of it?
