Berserk
I saw the anime I think 2-3 years ago and absolutely loved it and was DYING to read the manga but was broke at the time 😿. As I log berserk on Letterboxd now, I am talking about not only the anime but the manga by Kentaro Miura as I’ve been reading it recently.
I swear to god, the art is ridiculous and very different to the other manga I’ve read. Miura’s panels go from intimate character moments to these massive, detailed spreads that feel so overwhelming. There are these pages that you literally just sit on because your brain needs a second to process how much is going on.
And don’t get me started on Guts and Griffith, both one of the greatest protagonists AND antagonists in all of fiction between the two.
It’s how their relationship shifts over time as well which I found absolutely would crushing when first watching, Guts is drawn to Griffith’s ambition, and Griffith sees Guts as someone who actually matters to him beyond his dream, even if he doesn’t fully understand that. Guts starts wanting independence, something real for himself, while Griffith can’t handle losing control of the one person who made him feel human, making the Eclipse in the show/manga just so depressing.
