Possession
“That’s why I’m with you. Because you say “I” for me”
Wow Zulawski did an awesome job with directing this film! I initially found it a bit boring at the beginning but it grew on me quite quickly 😋. The title itself is very metaphorical in the way both Anna and Mark possess each other emotionally and how their love for each other becomes insanely messy, which ends up dissolving their sense of identity. Adjani's performance was so powerful in showing how unpredictable and unstable Anna becomes by capturing how manic and surreal her inner world is. I also found it interesting how Anna was trying to leave Mark through her affair and divorce offering but Mark was just too attached to her, which essentially intensified and created a strange dynamic between them. The wallpaper in her apartment reminded me of The yellow wallpaper by Charlotte Gilman as both main characters deal with similar the themes of psychological confinement and a disorientated sense of reality. Overall, it was an intriguing watch and I would so rewatch it at some point. There's a lot of psychological and symbolic aspects to the film that I want to go back and look into more at a later point 🤔
(I also felt bad for bob...😞)
