Miracle
“The legs feed the wolf, gentlemen.”
With Miracle being my most-watched film of all time, it finally gets its long-awaited Letterboxd log. I hadn’t visited this thing in probably well over six years. Once I was deep into my hockey years, I got superstitious and felt like I couldn’t watch it. I don’t know, it’s just how I was. Now that I’ve been removed from the sport seriously for about two years, it was time to revisit it.
I truly can’t state how much this movie means to me. Miracle is THE film that’s had the greatest impact on my life. As a young kid getting into hockey, it fueled my passion for the sport.
Stripping away my bias for the film and hockey, if possible, it’s actually a great movie. Kurt Russell does a phenomenal job as Herb Brooks, and all of the guys feel incredibly natural. The chemistry between them, and the way they talk to each other is perfect. Noah Emmerich as Craig Patrick is great as well.
The start of the film, where you’re introduced to O’Callahan, Craig, Eruzione, and McClanahan, is one of my favorite moments in film. These guys are larger than life and you know something special is about to come.
There’s a ton that goes into game choreography as well. The film functions on an absurd level for something that could easily feel phoned in. It’s the best sports film ever made. Man, I love this thing. It’s truly a part of me, more than any other film is. At my core, I’ll always be a hockey guy. Extremely moving.
