YES ZACH CREGGER, YESSSSS
This is a modern horror masterpiece. Everything I could want in a horror movie and more. Really liked the non-linear storytelling and the way the storylines all weaved together. You gradually start picking up on things in every “chapter” and it had me engaged the entire time trying to guess what was going on and I promise you it’s not what you think. Took a completely different turn than I was expecting. Bravo to the marketing team.
Becoming a big fan of Julia Garner after Ozark, Fantastic Four, and now Weapons. The whole cast did well here.
Absolutely loved the comedy that Cregger mixed in, especially in the Paul and James segments. Even some of the creepier parts had some laughs thrown in. The jump scares were perfection in my opinion too with how they used foreshadowing and I thought there were just the right amount of them. The last one in the basement really got me.
My lone complain, if you’d even call it one, is I wish there was just a little bit more explanation at the end. It kind of ended abruptly but I do think most of it was explained throughout the course of the film. Also, I might’ve missed this but where did she send all the kids when the cops were coming to inspect the place? Other than that, I loved how wild the end got and thought it closed the door well after the unsettling suspense that was built through the first two acts.
Had super high expectations going in and I’m happy to report that this exceeded them. Probably the scariest theater experience I’ve had and I think people will look back at this being a staple in the horror genre. Cannot emphasize enough how elite the writing is in this movie. So so good.
