Leviticus
Leviticus… you did it again. WOW
This might be my first and probably last actual review for a movie cuz I feel like I would only write more than 10 words if a film makes me want to either cry/puke (because of crying too much), stress or cry or all of the at the same time.
I just, I couldn’t resist to rewatch it again, what can I say, I love my films.
Leviticus has all the things that I love in a movie: horror, indie aesthetics, love, queer love, men wearing rings, and an original story by a great filmmaker.
But focusing on the horror aspect, god… Leviticus doesn’t try to be scary it’s scary because of the love, because of the drama, because of how real and similar it is to our reality today. It’s about the homophobia that many people experience 24/7, the fear that makes a lot of queer teenagers to never come out to their parents because god knows what they would do (apparently a living hell), the fear of wanting to kiss someone and never doing it because it is as close to dying.
Love can become your own death, your desires can kill you. Doesn’t matter where you are, it will always follow you (also, big mention to “It Follows”).
I think what I loved the most was that ending, that beautiful beautiful BEAUTIFUL shot of Naim and Ryan leaving their town, their families, all those people who never actually cared abt them if we’re being honest. Leaving because it was the right thing to do for their wellbeing. Listening to Self Control by Frank Ocean (the GOAT).
Because even if that fear never leaves, they’re together, they have each other to protect, they can start a new life where being who they are, isn’t a sin, isn’t a death, isn’t fear anymore. It’s love and it’s theirs.<3
