Moonlight
Watching this honestly felt like watching real people in real time, not actors. The casting is absolute perfection every performance feels so raw and alive. I cried at least three times, and fully sobbed when Chiron did at the end of the second act.
I love how in the third act, you see him and think, “wow, he’s changed so much,” and then Kevin calls, and just like that, he’s that same boy from the first act again. That moment hit so hard.
It’s such a beautiful and heartbreaking film about masculinity, identity, and survival - about how we become who we are because of what the world expects from us. You see this kid grow into a man who’s had to rebuild himself piece by piece just to survive, but you can still see that little boy behind his eyes. “I’m me. I don’t try to be nothing else.”
It’s such a flawless film. I know when I rewatch it (and I definitely will), I’ll love it even more. My eyes honestly said thank you while watching this.
