The Mastermind
Reichardt makes films about outcasts who aren’t really interested in living the conventional way, this is shown to be self-destructive as it destroys Mooney’s life but still I find myself rooting for him as his friends, his wife and the police begin to despise him. More than just rooting for the underdog, Mooney feels like a character doing what he loves in a way where he doesn’t care for anything else. Yes, this makes him a deadbeat dad, a horrible husband and even a bad friend but it’s so endearing that I can’t help but watch. Some beautiful cars in this movie too.
