Heat
In memory of Val, I watched Heat. I didn’t realize how stacked this cast was, with Jon Voight, Ashley Judd, and Danny Trejo in addition to Pacino, De Niro, and Kilmer, along with an early-career appearance from Natalie Portman. Al Pacino gives the performance of a lifetime. I originally thought this was going to be a more action-oriented film, but I’m pleasantly surprised that it takes things slow. I hated De Niro’s hair in Jackie Brown, but in this I actually don’t mind the beard. The chemistry between Pacino and De Niro is incredible. Kilmer adds something special to this movie, too. Something that I love about this movie is the depiction of each main character’s personal lives, away from the crime and work, and how it feeds into their jobs. Overall, it’s weird to see either Pacino or De Niro in anything other than a mob flick, but this movie is phenomenal. 10/10
