The Florida Project
i love how Sean Baker challenges traditional depictions of poverty by making his movies with vibrant, saturated colours. he once said he believes that applying a drab look to these settings can be manipulative and condescending, aiming instead to see the world through the eyes of the people who live there. i think you can see this in Anora, but especially in TFP - he adds magic to industrial and "boring" places with rich colours. despite the fact that the settings look beautiful, this movie does avoid romanticisation or glamorisation by keeping the story grounded in reality and very hard.
i also just love how perfect the portrayal of children and their imagination is in this film.
