Interstellar
Been struggling on where to place Oppenheimer in my Nolan ranking, which meant I had start somewhere. Started here and gave Interstellar a rewatch to really place the 2 side by side and reassess my thoughts. Nolan has truly crafted some of my favorite projects. Once a film bro, always a film bro, and these are films I can watch endlessly and find myself loving more and more each time. It makes ranking them tough but I guess that’s a good problem to have.
It’s tough comparing two films of such magnitude. Two wildly different works of art whose level of ambition cannot be understated. Divine in their own right. One being a colossal achievement in science fiction, while the other proves to be a heart-pounding biopic of exceptional enormity. They’re experiences. Immersive, harrowing journeys. Interstellar remains one of the most conceptually bold pictures of the century. Something a science fiction loving cinephile like myself is endlessly attracted to. A theater experience I will never forget, sat alongside my best friends while our jaws collectively dropped during the docking sequence. Oppenheimer, on the other hand, being the most powerful courtroom drama since The Social Network, maybe even of all time. A non-stop panic inducing screenplay that leaves you speechless. Four theater trips and each time immediately looking at the person next to me saying “that may be the greatest movie ever made.” I love both of them for wildly different reasons and I’ll forever be in awe of what Nolan has accomplished in his career. I simply cannot choose, but gun to my head which would I rank higher, its going to be….................................Oppenheimer.
