Climax
Loved it so much I had to get a rewatch in with the roomies this weekend.
I admire so much Gaspar Noé’s fearlessness when it comes to breaking the rules of cinematic convention. This movie is sickening, disorienting, and even frustrating at times. The takes are long and drawn-out as far as they can go. The actors/dancers contort their bodies in ways that dance in and around the uncanny valley. The lighting is bold, in-your-face, rich. The characters’ dialogue and actions are absurd, grotesque, and taboo. There is nothing about this movie that is a casual walk in the park, not from the end credits in the beginning to the title card at the end. Not a moment is taken for granted. Every sequence is packed with energy and style. The character of the first half and the savagery of the second-half are sold without question. My eyes were glued to the screen.
5/5 Let me repeat: I. Love. This. Movie.
