Punch-Drunk Love
This was an absolutely incredible experience; Punch drunk love is the story of Barry Egan and his struggles with anxiety. However, I do believe this film is much more than that, its visually one of the most colorful and aesthetically pleasing movies I have ever seen, and the cinematography not only fits in the emotional context of the film, but it's also incredibly unique and therefore ahead of its time. The acting within this movie is also incredible across the board, but specifically I think this is Adam Sandler's best performance, even better than uncut gems in my opinion.Putting all the great technical and production related things aside, Punch Drunk Love is (at least for me) the single most realistic and relatable film I have seen so far. I've always had really severe anxiety, even back when I was a kid, and I think this movie has been to only movie to properly portray it, and more specifically the way it was portrayed in socialization. There were multiple instances throughout this movie where I caught myself thinking back to situations and experiences in my life, for instance when Barry kept getting corrected for mixing up words, or just the general random remarks from his sisters like "gay boy" or "you never do anything or go anywhere", and even the super stressful anxiety building scenes where everyone is talking to Barry, asking him questions and freaking him out. Each one of these small aspects sort of brought me back to that middle/high school version of me that was scared to do anything or talk to anyone. And there really aren't many films I feel as though I can relate to on a level such as this, so massive props to the master Paul Thomas Anderson.I think that if you have anxiety, regardless of if you struggle to deal with it or not, this is a Must-see movie. It beautifully and perfectly encapsulates the journey and life of someone with anxiety. (whilst also being a cute love story and funny as fuck)
